Going home

I leave for the airport in less than an hour. I have a pretty hellish series of flights…all booked separately in order to save on the airfare. I’ll be traveling for about 36 hours altogether. But on the other side of it, I’ll be back home.

I ran an errand this morning and was trying to figure out if there was something big that I’ve learned over the past three months. The only thing that came to mind was this:

I’m really glad I came on this trip.

Part of me is sad that I can’t extend the adventuring, but I recognize that dropping everything to travel for three months isn’t something that everyone gets to do. I’m incredibly fortunate, and this journey has been absolutely amazing. I’ve seen so many fantastic things, and I’m so glad that I went through with it.

The responsibilities of real life can’t be put off forever, and it’s time to head back in order to take care of business.

The final reading on my odometer was around 6,800 kilometers or close to 4,100 miles. That’s a little more than 1.5 times the width of the United States. I’ve covered a lot of ground, and overall the trip was relatively trouble-free. I’m really thankful for that. This could have turned out poorly in any of a thousand ways and I certainly had my share of close calls.

But the trip is done. Back to real life.
