Our visit to Medellin

Sunday

Arrived. Discovered that there was no secure motorcycle parking. Panicked. Spent several hours searching before finding refuge in a garage owned by the Casa Kiwi Hostel.

Monday

I spent the day getting essential supplies for the hostel we’re staying in. A bath towel. A lock. Two locks, actually.

Funny story there. I walked to the local Exito (the Colombian version of Walmart) and bought a combination lock. I walked back to the hostel and tried to set the combination. The instructions were in Spanish, and I was too lazy to type them into Google to get a translation. I tried to change the lock based on the pictures.

I finally succeeded in changing the combination, but had no idea what I set the combination to, and the lock got stuck. Cue another trip to Exito to purchase a lock that opens with a key.

Elizabeth took her bike to the local KTM dealership to complain about the coolant leak. They determine that the radiator cap wasn’t tightened enough in Bogota. I check the radiator cap on my bike, and sure enough it’s loose as well. I tightened the cap and it appears to have fixed the problem.

Josh, Elizabeth, and I walked around the area at night and talked about how safe it feels compared to Bogota.

Tuesday

We met up with some local digital nomads and play a rousing game of Never Have I Ever while drinking a local spirit that tastes like licorice. It’s a pretty terrible-tasting drink.

Wednesday

I finally felt good enough to start coding again.

I attended a bar crawl that starts out in our hostel. Met a couple of cool people.

Thursday

I worked out out for the first time since the trip started. It was awful and I hated it.

Elizabeth went on the Pablo Escobar tour and met Pablo’s brother.

Friday

Ben and Elizabeth visited the local aquarium.

Saturday

We depart Medellin for Cali. We’ll be staying in the town of Salento on Saturday night, and intend to arrive in Cali on Sunday afternoon.
