And Then There Was One

Elizabeth’s mother, her aunt, and a few friends of Elizabeth’s mother all decided to come down to Peru and meet up with Elizabeth. Due to some health issues I’ll get into in another blog post, Elizabeth temporarily stopped traveling by motorcycle and traveled via plane with her mother.

Elizabeth and company arrived in Cuzco earlier last week; I arrived Thursday, traveling by motorcycle.

She’s been pondering the idea for a while, but decided that she’s going to travel separately from me for the rest of the trip. She found a buyer for her motorcycle in Lima and will be heading back there at some point soon to finish things up. In the meantime she’ll be traveling to the country of Bolivia and doing some more sightseeing with her family before they return to the United States. Elizabeth will probably be flying back herself in about a month.

Last night was the last time we would see each other before returning home, so I suggested we try one last culinary adventure. I found a highly-recommended restaurant called Uchu Peruvian Steakhouse that serves Alpaca.

You know, this:

The cuter my food, the better.

So I ordered a sampler plate, and out it came.

From left to right: Beef, Lamb, Alpaca

I split the alpaca with Elizabeth. To our immense surprise it tasted a lot like a regular steak. I wasn’t entirely convinced that the waiter had told us which meat was which, but when I got to the beef on the left, it definitely tasted like beef…so the alpaca was probably alpaca.

We talked, shared some stories, and laughed. It was a pretty fun night.

At the end, we took a picture to commemorate things.

Elizabeth and I have had our share of disagreements, but overall we were able to get along and have fun.

Now I’m on my own. I’m in Cuzco, recovering from even more illness. I’ll be heading out on the last leg of my trip as soon as I’m sure that I am completely recovered from being sick for pretty much the past month. I’ll write some more about how finishing things up alone is impacting me, but for now suffice it to say that I’m feeling optimistic.
